Favicon package checklist for static sites
A single favicon.ico still helps older bookmarks, but modern browsers and “Add to Home Screen” expect more. Use this checklist when you drop a LocalFavicon ZIP into a static site.
Files to include
favicon.ico— multi-size ICO for legacy tabs and some crawlers.favicon-16x16.png/favicon-32x32.png— crisp browser tabs.apple-touch-icon.png(180×180) — iOS home screen.android-chrome-192x192.pngand512x512.png— PWA / Android icons referenced from the manifest.site.webmanifest— name, theme color, icon entries.
Minimal HTML
Paste the snippet from the ZIP into your <head>. Adjust paths if assets live in a subfolder. Keep one canonical set — avoid three conflicting generators dumping different icons.
Verify
- Hard-refresh; check the tab icon.
- Open the manifest URL and confirm icon paths 200.
- On a phone, “Add to Home Screen” once after a real deploy (not only
file://).
LocalFavicon packs these into one ZIP so you are not hunting size presets across five tabs.
